The Interpreter: My Identity as a Technology Leader
I have never liked being in the limelight. I am not someone who can begin dancing strangely in an open field of a concert by myself in the hopes that someone join me so I look less ridiculous. I am also not the first follower, the second, or the third...
I'm not even the person who decided to wait until the very last second and now has missed their chance. I am the person who sits through the entire crazy scene watching everyone and explaining what happened to people who just arrived confused by the commotion.
That person who first dances has the guts to try and do something different for whatever reason that they have. However, by themselves, they just look crazy. When they get followers, especially the first follower, that's when they are no longer crazy (well not THAT crazy) and innovators.
That person is not me.
I am not interested in creating anything new or trying to find someone to follow. I truly believe the answers to problems have already been written, researched, and analyzed. I believe my job will be to find that solution and interpret it in my work for my learners.
In the landscape of innovation, an interpreter is essential, acting as a bridge between ideas and their practical application. We transform the abstract into the actionable. I take what has already been known and change it into a format that makes it easier for learners, and stakeholders to process. I take information and apply it to technology simply and easily which helps and not hinder.
The crazy innovator should keep on dancing and so too should the followers. However, an interpreter's role is crucial in translating the dance of innovation into steps that we all can follow.
In embracing our roles, whatever they may be, we contribute to a richer, more inclusive understanding of ourselves. Let's celebrate not only the courage to dance alone but also the vision to see the dance for what it could become, and the skill to translate that vision into reality for everyone to share.
